The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation has a long tradition in the education and training of kinesitherapists. They are highly qualified health professionals, capable of applying and developing theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in healthcare, preventive and medical activity. According to the National Classifier of Professions and Positions in Bulgaria, graduates of the Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy acquire a profession classified in subclass 22 "Medical Specialists", group 2264 "Physiotherapy", position 2264-6004 "Physiotherapist ".

Mission of the Department of Kinesitherapy and Rehabilitation

  • to train ðårsonnel -specialists in the specialty "Kinesitherapy", in the professional field "Public Health", in accordance with national and European requirements in healthcare;
  • to provide systematic knowledge and make scientific achievements accessible based on indisputable scientific evidence and discoveries;
  • to provide complete training for a new generation of kinesitherapists/physiotherapists/, who will possess knowledge and skills that meet the constantly changing market of health services and modern clinical practice;

Objective

The main objective of the Department of Kinesitherapy and Rehabilitation is for students specializing in "Physiotherapy" to acquire theoretical knowledge, practical skills and to build competencies necessary for the implementation of health services in medical institutions in the three educational degrees of Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and Doctor's Degree.

Tasks

  • to increase the effectiveness of the educational process;
  • to implement modern interactive pedagogical teaching methods;
  • to get acquainted with the current state and problems in carrying out the training of the students specializing in "Physiotherapy" Academic activity

In order to comply with the European standards for education and professional competencies of kinesitherapists/physiotherapists/, the process of improving the curricula in the specialty "Physiotherapy" is continuous and follows the regulatory framework of higher education in the Europe.

Learning activityof the Department

The teaching staff of the department trains students in the "bachelor" program in 16 academic disciplines as follows:

Mandatory specialty disciplines: Kinesitherapy in internal diseases, Nervous diseases, Psychiatry, Kinesitherapy in nervous and mental diseases, Kinesitherapy in lymphology, Kinesitherapy in children's diseases, Kinesitherapy in surgery, Kinesitherapy in obstetrics and gynecology, Natural preformed and physical factors, Educational and clinical practices, Adapted physical activity and Ergotherapy.

The implementation of educational and clinical practices, summer clinical practice and pre-graduate clinical internship is organized by the teaching staff of the department, and is carried out in over 30 medical institutions, university and multidisciplinary hospitals, specialized clinics and departments, as well as in specialized medical and diagnostic and consultative centers.

Training of third-year students, full-time and part-time studies from the Faculty of Pedagogy in the course" Fundamentals of Kinesitherapy in Pedagogical Practice" is also carried out.

The teaching staff of the department trains students of the "Master" program in two master's programs - "Kinesitherapy" and "Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation", with four specializations: "Kinesitherapy in Cardiology and Pneumology", "Kinesitherapy in Neurology and Psychiatry", "Kinesitherapy in Pediatrics", "Kinesitherapy in Geriatrics"

Over 20 doctoral students have completed training and successfully defended their doctoral degrees at the Department of Kinesitherapy and Rehabilitation.

Scientific activity of the Department of Kinesitherapy and Rehabilitation

The scientific activity carried out by the teaching staff of the department is abundant. Members of the department have numerous participations in the creation of textbooks, monographs, teaching aids, book chapters and numerous articles published in prestigious publications, as well as continuous updating of literary sources.

In the field of scientific application, members of the department participate in international, national and institutional projects, in international congresses and programs, including participation in World Congresses of the World Physiotherapy organization. A member of the department is a coordinator for the European Network of Physiotherapy in Higher Education (ENPHE).
